Scritta da Terry Dobson, che nel 1959, durante una visita a Tokyo, assistette ad una dimostrazione di Aikido in una base militare americana a Yokohama. Sei mesi dopo riuscì a entrare come uchi-deshi presso l'Aikikai Hombu Dojo, e vi rimase come tale fino al 1964. E' stato uno dei soli due non-giapponesi a godere di questo privilegio durante quel periodo iniziale assieme ad André Nocquet
