I love the idea of bringing Aikido where one can see, breath and feel history. I have done it before, when I took a photoshoot in front of the Giza Pyramids in Egypt. Recently I had the good luck to visit one of the fabled places of my youth, spent studying the old Greek-Roman world: Persepolis, the noblest capital of the Persian Empire, nowadays in the Islamic Republic of Iran

Taking the art of Aikido here, on this historic site, symbolises a way to connect past and present, old and new, foreign and familiar. Everything gets moulded anew in time, nevertheless, one beacon always guided me as an aikidoka and a writer of Aikido things: interpreting our art as a bridge between different generations and people.
Realizing this small photoshoot was not an easy feat at all.
Authorization was finally granted, but weapons were not allowed, and also no paired action which it could instil the idea of violence and/or competition. We also had to sign a liberatory promising that no advertising material was going to be made out of our photo service in the present or the future.

It goes without saying that we agreed without discussion…
